Bulgaria's Deputy Justice Minister Hristo Angelov, who resigned two days ago, has issued a media statement, saying that he had personal reasons
to quit.

"I believe that the new Justice Minister should have the opportunity to choose a deputy and my actions reflect my views," Angelov stated.

The government's press office announced Friday that Prime Minister Boyko Borisov had terminated Angelov's employment contract as of December 14 on the basis of the resignation he had filed.

When Hristo Angelov, a former prosecutor, leaves office, Bulgaria's newly-appointed Justice Minister will have two deputies, Daniela Mahseva and Zhaneta Petrova.

Diana Kovacheva, 36, was appointed Justice Minister in the place of Margarita Popova, who was elected in October as Vice President on the ticket of the ruling, center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party (GERB).

Prior to assuming the ministerial post, Kovacheva was the executive director of Transparency without Borders, the Bulgarian unit of Transparency International.
