Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's days in power are numbered, Turkish Prime MinisterRecep Tayyip Erdogan has warned.

Assad cannot cling to power indefinitely through military force, Erdogan has pointed out.

"You can remain in power with tanks and cannons only up to a certain point. The day will come when you'll also leave," Erdogan told a meeting in Istanbul, as cited by The Telegraph.

On Monday, two buses carrying Turkish pilgrims came under attack near the Syrian city of Homs, Turkish authorities confirmed. The passengers, who had attended the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, later arrived back in Turkey.

Tensions have been running high between Damask and Ankara, as Turkish officials have been increasingly vocal in condemning Syria's crackdown on anti-government protesters.
