Police in the Turkish town of Edirne, near the Bulgarian border, have busted a crime group for illegal traffic of the so-called "bonsai" drug through the border checkpoint.
Four Bulgarians and one Turkish citizen have been arrested and two cars with Bulgarian registration plates, used by the group to travel from Bulgaria, have been confiscated.
The news was reported Sunday by the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR, citing their correspondent in Istanbul.
The police followed the group since their crossing of the border and detained them at the Edirne market while attempting to sell the drug. One of the Bulgarians is reported to be handicap. They are being interrogated by the Edirne Court.
According to police experts, the bonsai drug, which is banned in Turkey, comes mainly through illegal routes from Bulgaria and is later distributed by small criminals to youth at schools and entertainment facilities.
