A unit of the Turkish special forces has stormed in the wee hours Sunday the hijacked ferryboat in the Sea of Marmara, liberating the passengers and crew, and killing one attacker.

According to current information, the killed attacker is the sole hijacker of the vessel; no one from the passengers or crew has been hurt.

The vessel was hijacked by the attacker during the night, after which it sailed on to the Sea of Marmara, where it had to halt due to shortage of fuel.

The decision for an attack by special forces was taken around 5 am Sunday, after traffic through the Bosphorous was halted for some time.

According to information by Turkish security services, the killed attacker was aged 28-30, but there is no data about his belonging to a group or organization.

At the time of the attack, some 20 passengers were on the ferryboat.
