Bulgaria's Deputy PM Snaps Up Borisov's Watch over Election Bet

In a repeat of a 2009 situation, Bulgaria's Interior Minister and Deputy PM Tsvetan Tsvetanov received the wrist watch of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

The weird scene came up at the Election Day news conference of the ruling center-right party GERB, after its presidential candidate Rosen Plevneliev clinched the Presidency.

According to Tsvetanov, who took a leave from the Interior Ministry over the past month in order to chair the election campaign headquarters of the GERB party, he and Borisov made a bet back in 2009 on whether their party will win the Presidency.

Thus, Borisov handed over willingly his watch to Tsvetanov; the weird scene apparently got public interest since it led a reporter to ask how much the watch cost.

According to the PM, the watch he had to give up for losing the bet was hardly worth BGN 150.

Back in 2009, at the news conference, when the GERB party won the general elections', Tsvetanov got Borisov's watch for the first time, for betting with Borisov that they will score a win.
