European leaders are expected to name European Council President Herman Van Rompuy the next president of the eurozone.

The information is based on a preliminary version of a concluding declaration of the Sunday eurozone summit.

"The president of the Euro summit will be designated by the heads of state or government of the euro area at the same time the European Council elects its president and for the same term of office," according to the document.

If elected, Van Rompuy will preside eurozone meetings until 2012, when his term as President of the European Council expires.

He will be replacing at the position current eurozone president, Luxembourg PM Jean-Claude Juncker.
