Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has promised to help two of the country's financially struggling football clubs.

Borisov, a passionate football fan, has personally found a sponsor for the team of Marek from the Southwestern town of Dupnitsa. The team has already received a cash injection of BGN 100 000, the Prime Minister revealed after participating in a veterans' football game between his amateur squad  of Vitosha Bistritsa and Marek.

For a short period In the late 70ies, Marek was among the top Bulgarian football clubs. They eliminated Hungarian champions Ferenzvaros and even recorded a spectacular home victory against Bayern Munich (2:0, UEFA Cup, 1977) before being knocked out of the tournament.

However, Marek are currently relegated to Bulgaria's third division.

The Dnevnik daily informs that Borisov has also pledged to secure financial help for another struggling team, Pirin Blagoevgrad, known as the club from which Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov started his career.

Borisov recently helped another Bulgarian club achieve financial stability. With his assistance, Beroe Stara Zagora, was taken over by the state owned Maritsa East 2 (Maritsa Iztok 2) thermal power plant.
