Bulgarian authorities need to aid in creating a better business climate in the country, stated Bulgarian Socialist Party candidate for Sunday elections Ivaylo Kalfin.

"State institutions in Bulgaria ought to take care not only about budget distribution, but also to actively stimulate the development of a better business climate," said Kalfin during a campaign meeting with industrialists and employers Tuesday.

Kalfin was critical of the policies of PM Boyko Borisov's center-right GERB cabinet, in particular of Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov's tactics of tackling financial and economic troubles with just spending cuts and no stimulus policies.

"The state must try to give more freedom and opportunities for investors to work - while at present we do not have an active public dialogue about the economic environment," commented the socialist candidate.

He singled out small and medium enterprises in Bulgaria as being hit especially hard by the crisis and struggling to make it.

"Companies have been strongly affected by shrunken demand within the country and thus stimulating demand must be a key goal," said Kalfin, who has an educational and professional background as an economist.

The current PES MEP vowed that if elected to be the next Bulgarian President, he will pro-actively work for a free and just market that will give more opportunities for producers and investors.
