Protesters are taking to the streets worldwide Saturday, rallying against bankers, financiers and politicians for what they see as corporate greed and government cuts of wages and social benefits.
The demonstrators are saying the above are to blame for the global economic crisis in which ordinary people are paying the price and are facing poverty and misery.
The rallies are inspired by the movements "Occupy Wall Street" in New York City and "Indignants" in Spain.
The demonstrations, organized mainly via Facebook and Twitter, are expected to be held in 951 cities such as Madrid, New York, London, and others, across 82 countries in Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia and Africa.
"The ruling powers work for the benefit of just a few, ignoring the will of the vast majority and the human and environmental price we all have to pay. This intolerable situation must end," organizers said in a statement posted on their website (http: 15october.net).
The protests first took place in May in Madrid Spain and later spread to Europe, before reaching last month the center of global capitalism on Wall Street.
In Madrid, Saturday's protest involves five marches across the city which will converge on Cibeles square and end in Puerta del Sol.
In Italy, 70 buses are set to bring protesters from throughout the country to a demonstration in Rome which is expected to draw some 200,000 people, in the aftermath of the cabinet Berlusconi surviving a non-confidence vote in the Parliament Friday.
Protests will be held in London's financial district, in Frankfurt, Germany, in front of the building of the Central European Bank, in downtown Athens, Greece, where there have been wide-spread and violent demonstrations against government austerity measures, and on Times Square in New York City.
Rallies already took place in New Zealand (3 000 gathered in Auckland), in Australia (2 000-strong rally in Sydney), in Denver, Seattle, San Diego and New York City in the US, in Tokyo Japan, and in Manila, the Philippines
Organizers say all protests are called as peaceful.
The Occupy Wall Street protest started on September 17 with a camp of several hundred people in a small square in the New York financial district, and has grown to relentless and large-scale protests.
