Poland is voting in parliamentary elections Sunday with opinion polls suggesting the center-right Civic Platform of Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, is likely to be the winner.

Civic Platform (PO) is currently allied with the Peasants' Party (PSL). If successful it would become the first Polish party to win two consecutive terms since the fall of Communism in 1989.

Despite Tusk's rule largely perceived as four years of strong economic growth, experts say that voter turnout would determine the final outcome since low turnouts have traditionally favored his main rival, Jaroslaw Kaczynski -leader of the conservative-nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party.

The low turnout could also force the party to seek a less natural partnership with the opposition Democratic Left Alliance (SLD).

"Nothing is prejudged yet, we will be fighting for our coalition to the very end," Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, also a deputy head of PO, is quoted saying by BBC.

Tusk vows to make an effort for reconciliation with Russia, despite disagreements over missile defense and gas pipelines as well as the conduct of the inquiry into the plane crash that killed Poland's president near Russia's Smolensk in April 2010.

Poland has been the only EU member state to avoid recession and the economy forecast for 2011 is for a 4% growth - the highest rate among the EU's seven largest economies.

However, Andrzej Rychard, of the Polish Academy of Sciences, tells BBC that "Poles are not comparing themselves continuously with other nations - they are comparing themselves with their aspirations and expectations."
