The court in Bulgarian Danube town of Nikopol left under arrest three Romanians who were detained in illegal cutting of wood on the Srednyak border island.

The group, including a fourth Romanian citizen currently sought by the Bulgarian police, reached the island with horse-drawn carts due to the low level of the Danube river waters.

The three were detained at the scene of the crime, in the midst of cutting down elm and willow trees with chainsaws and axes.

The damage caused is estimated at BGN 2,000.
