Former Libyan Prime Minister under dictator Muammar Gaddafi, Al-Baghdadi al-Mahmoudi, has been sentenced to six months in jail in Tunisia for entering the country illegally.

Al-Baghdadi al-Mahmoudi was arrested overnight in the southern town of Tameghza, near Tunisia's border with Algeria, according to Tunisian Ministry spokesman Hichem Meddeb, as cited by Al Jazeera.

Two other men were detained along with al-Mahmoudi after Tunisian officials found none of them had visas.

On Friday, the former Libyan PM was tried in the town of Tozeur, 430 km south of Tunis, and was sentenced to 6 months for violating the Tunisian border. The sentence entered into force immediately, the Tunisian Justice Ministry announced.

Al-Baghdadi al-Mahmoudi was the last Prime Minister to serve under Libyan dictator Mummar Gaddafi, who has been in hiding since the Libyan rebels' victory in the Battle for Tripoli on August 23, 2011.
