The Sofia City Hall is advising residents and visitors of the capital to use public transportation for the much anticipated opening of the first IKEA store in Bulgaria on Tuesday, September 20.

Buses on the 111 line will run 4 minutes apart and there will be more buses on the 69, 70, 122 and 123 lines, the City Hall informs.

The IKEA store has open and underground parking lots with 1 200 spots total, but Sofia traffic police say that if 300 cars arrive at once the beltway will come to a standstill.

The City Hall further reminds that the section of the beltway where the store is located is still a construction site while the local lanes have been opened to alleviate traffic on one of the most congested thoroughfares of the capital.

The municipality is to access the situation at the end of the day Tuesday and if needed will up public transportation in the area for the next few days.

Traffic police also inform IKEA had signed a contract with the Sofia Directorate of the Interior Ministry for providing security on the beltway in the day of the store's opening while a private security firm will take care of the parking organization and security inside the store.

Ten traffic patrols will monitor the IKEA section of the beltway Tuesday. In case of very heavy traffic, there will be detours for vehicles which are not headed to the store.
