A total of 11 646 "successful" suicides were registered in Bulgaria between 2000-2010, according to data from the National Statistical Institute.
Almost three times more men – 8 626 – committed suicide in Bulgaria in the past decade than did women (3 020), the NSI data indicates.

About 75% of the murders in Bulgaria are committed by ethnic Bulgarians, 14% - by ethnic Roma.
The youngest person to commit suicide in Bulgaria in 2010 was 8 years old, and the oldest was 97.
Each day, two adults and one child commit suicide in Bulgaria, according to the statistics.
According to Eurostat, Bulgaria is 20th in the EU 27 and 48th globally, with 10.1 "successful" suicides per 100 000 inhabitants. In Europe, Lithuania is first with 31.5 per 100 000, followed by Hungary – 21.8, Latvia – 20.7, Slovenia – 18.7, and Estonia – 18.3.
