Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayipp Erdogan has said that the country completely suspends trade, military and defense ties with Israel over its refusal to apologize for the 2010 Gaza flotilla attack.

"This process will be followed by different measures," said Erdogan on Tuesday, as cited by Al Jazeera, adding that the measures would take effect on Wednesday.

Turkey downgraded diplomatic relations with its former ally to the level of second secretary last week after Israel refused to apologize for the deadly Israeli raid on a Gaza-bound Turkish-flagged protest flotilla that killed nine pro-Palestinian activists in May 2010.

On September 02, Turkey expelled the Israeli ambassador in Ankara, suspended military deals and vowed a greater naval presence in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

The step was prompted by a UN report declaring that Israel's raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla last year was excessive but the blockade itself was legal.

Israel, however, remained adamant in its refusal to offer an apology for the deadly 2010 flotilla raid, despite Turkey's ultimatum.
