Bulgaria's former Tsar and former PM Simeon Saxe-Coburg has expressed a high opinion of current Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
It was during the Cabinet of Saxe-Coburg and his National Movement for Stability and Prosperity in 2001-2005 that Borisov first entered Bulgarian politics in his capacity as Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry.
Before that, Borisov's security firm Ipon was in charge of guarding Saxe-Coburg during his visit to Bulgaria in the 1990s.
"Every thing has its moments, every function has its dignity. He is a person who is capable of working a lot, and who has a wonderful instinct," Saxe-Coburg said about Borisov speaking to reporters on Thursday when he was asked if Borisov was doing better as a Prime Minister or back when he was the chief of a security firm.
"When he was in charge of Ipon, Boyko Borisov was always bent on carrying out his functions in a flawless way. That is why he himself walked with me. I don't think he was my bodyguard, he was the owner of the security company," Saxe-Coburg said, in a way debunking the popular clich? in Bulgarian media that Borisov was the actual bodyguard of the ex Tsar.
Saxe-Coburg further commented that he could not give advice to Prime Minister Boyko Borisov about who his ruling party GERB should nominate to run in Bulgaria's 2011 presidential elections. Borisov is due to announce GERB's bidder on September 4, while the elections are set for October 23.
