NATO will Deploy Patriot Air Defense Systems in Ukraine
NATO has announced plans to send Patriot air defense systems to the embattled nation
Libya's embattled dictator Muammar Gaddafi was almost caught Wednesday when rebel commandos allegedly tracked him down to a private house in downtown Tripoli.
The commandos had received an intelligence tip leading to the house in question, the French magazine Paris Match reported Thursday.
However, as the commandos raided the house around 10:00 am Wednesday, Gaddafi had allegedly already fled. According to the report, evidence was found that the dictator had spent at least one night at the place, but it is unknown how recently he did it.
Paris Match has quoted a rebel source as saying intelligence suggested Gaddafi was still in Tripoli. On Wednesday, however, it was reported that NATO planes are on the search for the dictator in the Libyan desert.
Libya's Transitional National Council believes that Gaddafi might have hidden in the desert areas between Sirte and Sabah. The council has already offered amnesty to any of Gaddafi's entourage who killed him and announced a reward worth more than USD 1 M for his capture.
Currently, rebels are pushing towards Col Gaddafi's hometown of Sirte, having taken most of Tripoli
