A third of Gaddafi's son, Saadi Gaddafi, has been captured by the Libyan rebels, according to still unconfirmed reports.

Saadi Gaddafi's capture came late Monday afternoon, as the Libyan rebels, represented by the Transitional National Council, are closing in on the Gaddafi loyalists around Tripoli, the Al Arabiya TV reported.

Saadi Gaddafi is a former captain of the Libyan national football team and has also played in Italy's Serie A for Perugia, Udinese, and Sampdoria in 2003-2007.

He was the commander of Libya's special forces, and part of his father's inner circle, and has been wanted on an Interpol notice.

Earlier on Monday, Libyan rebel leader Mustafa Abdel Jalil confirmed the overnight capture of Gaddafi's two other sons, Mohammed and Saif al-Islam, and said that they were "under the control of the revolutionaries and ... in safe places."

Libyan rebel TV from Doha is reporting that Masud Abd-al-Hafiz, a relative of Col Gaddafi, has been arrested.
