Bulgaria: Bulgarian Customs Detain Thousands of Men's Socks Photo of the detained shipping of men's socks, the Bulgarian Customs Agency.

Bulgarian customs officers at Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on the border with Turkey detained 5,280 pair of contraband men's socks during a check Sunday.

Officers made a routine check on a van traveling from Turkey to Poland.

Along the 400 parcels of declared goods, officers found 22 undeclared plastic bags each containing 240 pairs of men's socks.

A ticket has been issued to the driver.

Customs officers have commented that smugglers have started attempting to traffic fall clothing, but the shipping of socks might have been a try to test the alertness officers during the time of heavy summer holiday traffic.
