The Norwegian police authorities deserve big gratitude over the way the handled attacker Anders Behring Breivik, the country's Minister of Justice and the Police, Knut Storberget has declared.

"It is important to me to congratulate all policewomen and policemen working on the streets, as well as all senior police officials," Storberget has said, as cited by the Dagbladet daily.

Storberget disagreed with the negative media depiction of the police's reaction to Friday's killing rampage.

"I am open for discussion over how this should have been handled," he added.

On Monday, it was revealed that the number of casualties in Norway's Utoya island shooting is smaller than initially expected. A total of 68 victims have been confirmed, including one who died at a hospital on Saturday, police officers have said.

Breivik is to be held in full isolation for the first four weeks, Judge Kim Heger has revealed, saying he could receive no letters, nor have visitors except for his lawyer.
