Norway prosecutors have asked for a closed-door hearing of Anders Behring Breivik, the suspect in Friday's twin terrorist attacks.

Behring Breivik, 32, is being held in connection with the bombing in Oslo's government district on Friday that killed at least seven people and shootings that left at least 80 people dead at a youth camp on nearby Utoeya island the same day.

During questioning, Brevik revealed that he had intended to kill former Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland during her presentation on the island earlier in the afternoon but he was delayed.

The decision for the court hearing, scheduled for 1300 local time Monday, will be taken in a public session, global news agencies have reported.

According to Breivik's lawyer Geir Lippestad, his client plans to give an account of his motives during his first appearance in court.

In a media statement published earlier Monday, the local prosecuting authority says that it will seek an extension of the time Behring Breivik can be kept in custody from the maximum allowable four weeks to eight weeks.

"The prosecutor will ask for eight weeks of custody for Anders Behring Breivik," according to the statement.

A closed-door session is believed to deprive Breivik from a potential propaganda platform.

Norway will observe a minute's silence at 1200 local time (1000 GMT).

Breivik is to appear at the hearing an hour later.
