Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov's bid to stay with Manchester United has suffered a new setback as his ankle has been injured the club's tour of the United States.
Berbatov had to miss the Red Devils' Wednesday friendly against Seattle Sounders at CenturyLink Field as a result of the injury, The Telegraph says.
The 30-year-old Bulgarian hitman was unable to train in Seattle on Tuesday evening, but the club are still hoping to see him back on track before the end of the tour.
The British side smashed their US "sparring partners" 7:0, with second-half substitute Wayne Rooney helping himself with a hat-trick inside 21 minutes.
Berbatov was the Premier League's joint top scorer last season with 20 goals as United clinched a 19th title. However, the 30-year-old former Bulgarian international spent much time on the bench towards his last season at Old Trafford, as he was outshone by Javier Hernandez.
On Monday, it was reported that Juventus have already tabled a EUR 8 M cash offer for the unsettled forward, who has admitted he is desperate to stay with his current squad.
