As the Bulgarian army is seeking to fill 72 job positions in its guardsmen unit, it considers appointing its first female "guardsmen".

Col. Boyan Stavrev, commander of Bulgaria's National Guards Regiment, told the bTV private channel Monday that his unut may very well end up appointing women, claiming that would make Bulgaria the first country in the world to have official female guards in front of its Presidency.

The future Bulgarian guardswomen will have to fit the same requirements as their male colleagues - successfully passing physical, IQ and psychological tests, Stavrev clarified.

Early on Monday, bTV broadcast an interview with Iskra Vasileva, a charming 21-year-old brunette, who declared she was eager to join the country's National Guards Regiment.

Vasileva, who is currently working in the Bulgarian National Guard Orchestra, said she was painstakingly training for the upcoming tests in September.
