The annual air show in Bulgaria's Gabrovo has been opened by Minister of Economy, Energy, and Tourism Traicho Traikov, who made his first ever parachute jump.

Traikov's parachute jump was witnessed by another minister from the Borisov Cabinet, Tomislav Donchev, EU Funds Minister, and former Mayor of Gabrovo before he joined the government in 2010. Donchev, however, stayed firmly on the ground the entire time.

Over 40 types of various aircraft – including gliders, light planes, hot-air balloons, and helicopters – will be presented during the third edition of the Gabrovo Air Show.

"Bulgaria's Economy Ministry participates in the seminar program of the Gabrovo Air Show each year, and funds the participation of the Bulgarian aviation companies in the international expo in Friedrichshafen," Economy Minister Traikov said at the air show opening.

"Bulgaria now has producers of parachutes and paragliders with strong performance on the international markets, and we also have good achievements in avionics. This shows that flying can be a hobby that can turn into business. Each hobby must be checked out for business opportunities in order to live in the best way possible – by flying," he said, as quoted by BGNES.

Experts of the Economy Ministry and the Agency for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises have used the air show to present to respective Bulgarian firms opportunities for EU Operational Programs funding.
