The Regional Court in Bulgaria's second largest city of Plovdiv reduced Thursday the bail of the bus driver, who crashed on Trakiya highway, killing 8 people.

The magistrates honored the claim of Svetoslav Dimitrov, 43, to reduce the bail to BGN 1 000 from the previous BGN 5 000, ruling the Prosecutor's Office had no grounds to set such high amount.

Dimitrov, 43, has been charged with recklessly causing the death of more than one person which, according to the Penal Code, is punished with imprisonment from 5 to 15 years.

The Prosecutor's Office insisted the bail is aligned with the driver's income, but the magistrates strongly disagreed – documentation showed he has two minor children – 6 and a 10-month-old baby plus a minor step child while his wife is chronically ill and needs constant treatment.

The Court further points out Dimitrov has been paid the minimum monthly wage plus BGN 50 per run, under the table, and there is no evidence he has any other income.

The rule is final and cannot be appealed.

On June 15, an Enturtrans bus, travelling from the capital Sofia to the Black Sea city of Burgas overturned and burst into flames on Trakiya highway, near the second largest city of Plovdiv, in the wee hours Wednesday, killing 8 and injuring 20.
