Bulgaria is the EU country with the third largest number of sentences given by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg, according to a report published by European Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA)on 2010.
Romania is a strong "leader" when it comes to sentences for human rights breaches in the bloc with a total of 135, Poland (87) and Bulgaria (69).
At the other end there is Estonia (1) Ireland and the Netherlands ( 2) Slovenia, Malta and Latvia with three each, the report shows.
In 2010,the European Court of Human Rights handed down 795 judgments against almost all 27 EU Member States and the candidate country Croatia – in 657 of these judgments, the Court found at least one fundamental rights violation.
