A five-year-old child has survived the passenger bus crash that claimed the lives of eight people in Southern Bulgaria early on Wednesday, only to be told a few hours later that its mother and sister are dead.

After hearing the horrific news the little child, whose name has not been disclosed, suffered a severe shock. Its physical condition though is good.

Eight people were killed and 22 injured early Wednesday when a passenger bus overturned and burst into flames after hitting a traffic barrier near the city of Plovdiv.

The injured people have been taken to nearby hospitals – two of them in a coma.

The bus was travelling from Sofia to the Black Sea city of Burgas when the crash occurred.

There were thirty-one passengers aboard the bus.
