The first school year at the recently opened Polytechnic University in the western Bulgarian city of Pernik ended with a mass fight.

The information was reported Sunday by the Bulgarian news agency BGNES.

The fight had been, most likely, triggered by an ethnic-based altercation between Bulgarian and Turkish students. The incident happened late Friday night at the "Dream" bar in Pernik, located near the University. Students have gathered there to celebrate the end of the school year.

Police and ambulances were called to scene. Several participants in the fight were treated at the city's hospital emergency room and released.
