Bulgaria Pining for Socialism? Why?

To quote Orhan Pamuk, Turkey's best selling author and Noble laureate in literature, living on the Balkans can be a gift, but first you have to survive.

Surveys, showing that Bulgarians are pining for socialism, have just come to confirm how they, like others in reform-weary Eastern Europe, are more than disillusioned with their lot.

True, Bulgarians have more reason than most. After years of reform - first initiated after Bulgaria came to the brink of collapse in late 1997 - the lack of a feel-good factor in this country is manifest.

Still why pining for Socialism? Because those fatnecks created a house of cards, borrowed billions and then when the whole thing collapsed, left those who supported them hold the empty bag and dream about the good old times?

Sadly, strongman stability, whose epitome Boyko Borisov just until recently was, proved to be a sham.

Then what?

When people need alternatives, they create alternatives, as a reader in our forum recently wisely and rebelliously wrote.
