On the second day of his official visit to Slovenia, June 07, Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov attended the opening of the Slovenian-Bulgarian business forum in Ljubljana.

Parvanov and his Slovenian counterpart also discussed opportunities for boosting bilateral trade and economic relations and mutual investments, as well as cooperation in the spheres of EU enlargement and EU's energy policy.

"Slovenia participates very actively in the implementation of the South Stream gas pipeline project. We hope that it will develop successfully and will open new perspectives for the region between the Black Sea and the Adriatic Sea", said Slovenian President Danilo Turk at the opening of the business forum.

The Slovenian head of state underscored the importance of retaining optimism in the aftermath of the crisis, hinting that a new tough period may be looming ahead.

"Despite that, I remain an optimist as regards our economic partnership. Both Bulgaria and Slovenia are EU member states and both belong to the common market. We should improve our cooperation within this framework", Turk stated.

He recommended focusing on the region circumscribed by the Baltic, Black and Adriatic seas as an EU territory with a very high potential for development.

"We need to find models of partnership and cooperation in the absorption of EU funds. We must aim towards a more efficient application of these funds", Turk noted, citing green technologies and the electronic industry as spheres of cooperation.

The Bulgarian President, in his turn, drew attention to stable tax legislation in the country as a key incentive for foreign investors.

"Bulgaria also offers predictability in terms of tax laws, which encourage foreign investment", Parvanov stated, explaining that discussions were underway in the country to decide whether to include the tax laws into the Constitution in a bid to ensure even greater fiscal stability.

He stressed the excellent economic relations with Slovenia, adding that "The current volumes of bilateral trade turnover and investments should not make us feel satisfied because there are factors which presuppose a much more flourishing development of our economic relations."
