Bulgaria's Customs Agency is investigating a major company operating in the fuel sector for wrongdoings, Vanyo Tanov, the Agency's head, revealed Monday.

Speaking for the private Btv channel, he refused to give away the name of the company, but stated he expects the investigation to result in new compromising materials against him emerging in the media.

However, Tanov declared that he has full trust in the country's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Finance Minister Simeon Djankov, within whose Ministry the Customs Agency operates.

In the beginning of 2011, tapes of phone conversations of Tanov with other senior official, including Borisov,  caused a "Tapegate" in Bulgaria.

The tapes were leaked recently by the Galeria weekly, which is believed to be mouthpiece of former secret agent Aleksei Petrov, arrested in the Octopus special operation in February 2010, and by the conservative Law, Order and Justice party, also believed to be connected to Petrov. The tapped conversations provide evidence of political cover-ups on part of the Borisov government for certain companies in Bulgaria, including  Lukoil, which allegedly contrabands fuels.

In his Monday interview, Tanov also pointed out his agency busted smugglers trying to "import" 3000 cigarette masterboxes in Bulgaria last week.
