Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov has inaugurated a monument of the greatest Bulgarian writer and poet Ivan Vazov (1850-1921) in the Russian capital Moscow.
The Vazov monument is located in the Moscow Foreign Literature Library.
"I am happy that the Moscow Library of Foreign Literature now has a monument of the "Patriarch of Bulgarian literature," Bulgaria's top diplomat stated.
He invited the Russian society to get to know contemporary Bulgaria.
"I hope that our next meeting will be dedicated to the works of contemporary Russian and Bulgarian authors," he stated.
Later on Friday, as part of his visit in Moscow, Nikolay Mladenov paid tribute to the Bulgarian monuments in the Russian capital, most notably the Monument of Pleven Heroes, i.e. the Russian soldiers who lost their lives in the siege of Pleven in Northern Bulgaria during the Russian-Turkish War of 1877-1878, which liberated Bulgaria from the Ottoman Empire.
Mladenov declared the desire of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry to contribute funds for the maintenance of the monument located on the Slavic Square in Moscow, which also harbors a monument of St. Cyril and St. Methodius, the authors of the first Slavic script.
