Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has declared that he will "bring back" the Bulgarian immigrants living abroad within three years.
Borisov has apparently based this deadline on the expected completion of several major highway construction projects in Bulgaria.
"There are no possibilities, capacities, and funds to do everything at once. If every single Cabinet had completed one highway in the past, we would not have to build any right now," Borisov stated in the southwestern town of Gotse Delchev located near the Ilinden crossing point on the Bulgarian-Greek border, as cited by Darik Radio.
He stressed that in July 2011 the government will start the construction two sections of the Struma Highway linking Sofia to Kulata on the border with Greece, and that the road will be completed in 2014. Meanwhile, the government plans to build a four-lane road linking Gotse Delchev to Simitli, a town located along the future Struma Highway, thus linking Gotse Delchev to the highway through a 40-minute ride, a trip that now takes much longer.
During his visit to Gotse Delchev Borisov also talked to local tobacco producers, stressing that his government has completed its subsidy promises, and that the tobacco growers can expect BGN 35 M in subsidies by August 2011.
