At least seven people have been reported injured in a blast at a bus stop in central Istanbul.

The accident took place near a major shopping mall and was most likely caused by a bomb that went off, according to Turkish police authorities.

Police said they were still investigating the cause of the blast, and there has been no immediate claim of responsibility, Al Jazeera said. Several ambulances were dispatched to the scene, as well as police cars and forensic teams.

CNN-Turk news channel said the explosion appeared to have been caused by a device planted in a waste bin.

There are reports that the explosion may have targeted a police academy near the large Akmerkez shopping mall, according to Today's Zaman.

No material damage of the surrounding buildings has been reported.
