An earthquake struck Western Turkey Thursday night, taking the lives of four and injuring over 80 people.

The quake that struck at 11:15 p.m. on May 19 had a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale and was closely followed by an aftershock measuring 4.6 on the same scale.

According to a report of the Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory, the quake measured 5.9 on the Richter scale and was centered in the town of Simav, 77 kilometers away from K?tahya in Western Turkey.

Local media reported of panic attacks and people jumping out of windows and balconies.

The quake knocked down many buildings and caused phone and electricity lines to collapse.

Tremors were felt in Istanbul and the rest of the country, as well as in Southeast Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian Fire Safety and Civil Protection Directorate-General said there are no reported casualties or material damages in the country.
