Bulgaria: Albanian Socialists Claim Tirana Mayorship

The Albanian Socialist Party has claimed it won the seat of mayor of capital Tirana for its leader Edi Rama, who is ready to serve his fourth consecutive term.

The information is ye to be confirmed by the official elections authorities. It is rumored that Rama might have won by just a few votes.

Municipal elections in Albania last Sunday were marred by cases of violence and apparent attempts to rig results.

Security forces made a number of detentions, as ruling Democratic Party headed by PM Sali Berisha and Rama's Socialists traded allegations that their opponents stood behind the events.

Albania has been tangled in a deep political division after the narrow win of the Democrats at the June 2009 general elections, which the Socialists contested as invalid.
