Bulgaria's prime minister has surprisingly threatened to kick out of office the head of the country's Social Security Institute (NOI) Hristina Mitreva.
"Very soon the director of NOI will be sent into retirement and dismissed," Boyko Borisov said in the town of Stara Zagora, as cited by Standard daily.
The announcement followed allegations of delay in the pensions granted to orphans who are having their proms this year, which subsequently proved to be false.
Meanwhile the head of the revenues agency Krassimir Stefanov accused Mitreva of swelling the budget deficit by forecasting unrealistically high levels of revenues from social securities.
Mitreva's dismissal may be seen as another example of Borisov's washout staff policy, which has very often had dire consequences.
Hristina Mitreva was appointed March 5, 2010 head of the Bulgarian Social Security Institute (NOI) after 148 MPs voted yes on her nomination. Not a single member of parliament voted against her nomination.
Mitreva's term expires on May 21, 2013.
Mitreva had served as Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Policy, a position she has held since August 2009, with particular responsibility for social security and incomes policy.
Her nomination was put forward by the Bulgarian Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Totyu Mladenov from the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party.
Mitreva replaced Sotir Ushev, who resigned from the post citing personal reasons for his departure.
Hristina Mitreva was born on August 15, 1949. She is a graduate of Sofia's Economy University with a major in Statistics.
She has worked between 1971 and 1990 in the Center for Statistics and later had been an expert at the Voluntary Retirement Contribution Fund and the Insurance Company "Bulgaria Life."
Since 1998 until becoming Deputy Minister in August 2009, Mitreva was the Head of the Main Directorate "Analysis, Planning and Prognostics" at NOI.
