Some 25 people are believed to be dead after an Indonesian passenger plane crashed into the sea in the eastern part of the country Saturday.

Twenty-one passa  and four crew were on board when the plane fell while attempting to land amid rain and limited visibility at the town of Kaimana in the remote province of West Papua. Bambang Ervan, a spokesman for the Indonesian Transportation Ministry told the New York Times.

"Looking at the conditions there, we're not expecting any survivors," he added.

Fifteen bodies have already been recovered from the wreckage, CNN has reported.

Merpati, which executed the tragic flight, s among the 51 Indonesian airlines blacklisted by the European Union over safety concerns.
