Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov has hailed the targeted killing of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden by US forces.
"The liquidation of the leader and inspirer of Al Qaeda is an act of just retribution for the numerous victims of extremism. Today it became clear that the horrific crimes that he inspired have not gone unpunished," Mladenov declared in a special statement.
He pointed out that terrorism is universal in scope and does not differentiate among convictions, nationalities, and religions.
"It is clear for Bulgaria that this act does not mean putting an immediate end of international terrorism and the liquidation of Al Qaeda. Our country will continue to contribute consistently to the fight against global terrorism, which can be defeated only the united efforts of the entire international community," Mladenov said.
He believes that given the historic changes going on in the Middle East and North Africa the exposure of the absurdity of religious fanaticism and extremism in the contemporary world.
People’s real problems must be emphasized today, and the quest of the moderate majority of the Muslims towards political freedom democracy and human dignity, stated the Bulgarian Foreign Minister.
