A police officer has been arrested in the Bulgarian town of Kazanlak while attempting to purchase illegal drugs.

The information was reported Saturday by the police in the regional center, the city of Stara Zagora.

The policeman, 23, is an employee of the police precinct in the nearby town of Gurkovo and a recent graduate of the Kazanlak police school. The individual, who was selling the drugs, has also been arrested.

The police officer has been known in Kazalnlak as a drug addict long before being admitted to the police school, the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR, reported. The Stara Zagora Prosecutor's Office is probing the case.

The detainees will be held behind bars for 24 hours before facing a judge. Criminal charges are pending.
