At least 17 people were killed by a blast at a restaurant in downtown Marrakech, Morocco, on Thursday.

The explosion was caused by a suicide bomber, according to the al Arabiya television. A further 20 people were injured in the attack.

At least 10 of the deceased were foreigners, six of them French.

"Killing innocent people in this way could be nothing but an act of terror," Taj Chief of Staff for the Morocco's Communications Minister, declared Thursday, as cited by Bloomberg.

The terror attack was the deadliest in Morocco since 2003, when suicide bombers simultaneously struck five sites in Casablanca, killing more than 40 people and wounding at least 100.
