Bulgaria: Most of Bulgaria's Employers Against Min Wage Increase - Study Image by BCCI.bg

68.8% of employers in Bulgaria do not approve a raise of the state's minimum wage, according to a study by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The study was carried out following proposals by Minister of Labour Totyu Mladenov and trade unions for the minimum wage to be raised by some 11% in mid-2011.

15.6.% of respondent employers have answered that they would accept the administrative measure, but will have to reduce the number of employees.

Just 14.3% of respondents have said they fully accept the possible raise and will not fire workers.

The rest, some 70%, are firmly against a minimum wage increase, according to the BCCI study.

Employers see the administrative raise in salaries as threatening them with the possibility that their workers might request a proportional up in their own wages.
