Bulgaria: Bulgarians Hide BGN 5 B of Taxes for 2 Years

Bulgarians have evaded taxes amounting as much as to BGN 5 B over the course of the last two years, according to a report by the National Revenue Agency for 2010.

The Sega daily however reports that BGN 3 B out of them are non-collectible, for the debtors have almost no assets.

Those are however only the tax evasions detected upon revisions, with more expected to have remained undiscovered.

For 2010 the tax evasions discovered upon revisions, which were close to 12,000, amount to BGN 2.34 B.

Out of them, the NRA has been able to start procedures to claim funds back for just BGN 512 M.

In addition, both businesses and citizens chronically pay their taxes and fees later than required, with some BGN 14.4 B of overdues end of 2010.
