HOT: » Assessing the Legacy of Bulgaria's "Denkov" Cabinet: Achievements, Failures, and What Comes Next
An individual, who dares to sign a document despite an explicit ban from his Minister and boss has no place working anywhere within State institutions, the Bulgarian Foreign Affairs Minister, Nikolay Mladenov, says.
Mladenov spoke in a TV interview for the private channel bTV Wednesday morning.
On Tuesday, Economy and Energy Minister, Traicho Traikov, fired the Director of the National Electric Company (NEK), Krasimir Parvanov, over him exceeding his authority during negotiations with the Russian "Atomstroyexport" for the construction of the Nuclear Power Plant, NPP, in the Danube town of Belene in Bulgaria. With the endorsed documents Parvanov has committed Bulgaria to sign no later than two months from now a final contract for the NPP realization.
The Foreign Minister defined Parvanov's actions as inacceptable, saying special services must find out of this is the result of a plot or of corruption. He firmly rejected rumors Parvanov's ousting is an attempt of the cabinet to find an excuse for a behind-the-curtain decision that is being kept secret from the public.
Mladenov pointed out the policies of the cabinet of the center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party regarding all strategic projects are very careful and balanced over the difficult legacy from their predecessors who have made commitments impossible to fulfill.
"The Belene construction is a matter of negotiations and clear parameters, but we must show all Bulgarians that such behavior as the NEK Director's is inacceptable and cannot be tolerated in this country and anywhere else," the Minister declared.
