After a number of unsuccessful attempts, the leakage of radioactive water from the quake-stricken Japanese Nuclear Power Plant, NPP, Fukushima, has been stopped.

The information was reported Wednesday by the plant's operator Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO).

Last week, workers at the NPP, trying to tame the damage, discovered that water contaminated with radiation, far exceeding the norm, is leaking non-stop from a 20-cm crack in the concrete shaft of the second reactor. They made many unsuccessful attempts to fill it with concrete or polymers until Wednesday when the leak was finally stopped.

The Japanese Minister of Economy and Industry has assured the leakage of radioactive water in the Ocean would not be harmful for people's health.

Meanwhile, an advisor of Japanese Prime Minister, Naoto Kan, is quoted saying it would be months before the country manages to handle the damage in full.
