About 7 000 Bulgarian college students will take part in the Summer Work and Travel (SWT) program in the United States in 2011.
The information was announced by Vice Consul Brian Corteville of the US Embassy in Sofia who met with university students in Varna
Corteville says young Bulgarian people are desirable workers for American employers, adding the students prefer the States of Alaska, Massachusetts, and Delaware, where they hold jobs as waiters, hotel staff, and lifeguards.
The Vice Consul further informed Bulgarian students can make about USD 4 00 for the summer, depending on the position.
Last summer saw a 10% increase in participation in comparison with the previous year when over 6 000 Bulgarians lived and worked in communities throughout the US, the Embassy reported.
The SWT program has provided millions of international students with the opportunity to visit the United States and experience the American people and culture firsthand. They, in turn, share their culture and language with communities throughout the United States, enriching those communities and providing a mutually beneficial cross-cultural exchange experience. Bulgaria has an especially strong tradition of participation in the SWT program and is consistently among the top ten countries with the highest levels of participation in SWT, the US Embassy in Sofia points out in a press release.
