Japan Eager But Not Ready for Bulgarian Aid

The Japanese government is yet to answer Bulgaria's proposal to participate in the rescue relief operations after the devastating earthquake and Tsunami which hit the Asian country.

"On behalf of the Japanese government and the people of Japan, I will first like to thank the Bulgarian government and the whole Bulgarian society for showing their sympathy. However, the Japanese government is still not prepared to receive the foreign help proposed. As soon as the Japanese government announces it is ready to receive the Bulgarian help, I will ask you to send it," a diplomat from the Japanese Embassy in Sofia has told dariknews.bg.

Some 90 countries have already offered Japan their help in various ways, the diplomat has revealed.

On Friday, Bulgaria's PM Boyko Borisov announced that the country is ready to immediately send 20 firefighters to Japan to join the relief operations after the devastating earthquake on Friday.

The number of casualties from the devastating 9 point magnitude on the Richter scale earthquake and following tsunami that struck Japan on March 11 is still unknown yet, but has been estimated to be above 10 000 already.According to the Japanese news agency Kyodo, 4 500 have died or are still missing.

On Monday, 2 000 bodies were found on the coast of the Miyagi prefecture. Another 1 000 were discovered on the Oshika peninsula and about the same number in the town of Minamissanriku, according to the Russian Gazetta.ru.
