Greece has called on the European Union to share the country's illegal immigration burden, the Greek daily "Vima" reported on Friday.
"Other European countries must step up and help share the burden of illegal immigration by agreeing to take in some of the thousands of migrants who have flooded into debt-ridden Greece," the country's Interior Minister Yannis Ragousis said.
His statement was in regards to the end of the six-week hunger strike of illegal migrants in Greece.
According to Ragousis, it is not enough that Europe is financially supporting his country because it should also accept refugees on its territory as well. He added that the pressure is so strong that Greece just cannot solve the problem.
He pointed out that for the first time, his country cannot provide solutions for temporary or permanent stay of refugees.
"Greece is not capable of taking this burden because such thing would mean a constant flow of illegal immigrants to the country," Ragousis said.
