Embattled Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi has deployed fighter jets to bomb the cities of Ajdabiya and Az Zawiyah as he faces increasing international pressure.

An ammunition depot that has fallen into opposition hands has been attacked by Gaddafi forces near the town of Adjabiya, 100 miles south of Benghazi, according to The Telegraph.

Forces still loyal to the dictator have reportedly also attacked the city of Az Zawiyah, 50km west of Tripoli

"We were able to repulse the attack. We damaged a tank with an RPG. The mercenaries fled after that," said a resident of Az Zawiyah, as cited by Al Jazeera. A large, pro-Gaddafi force is reported by AP to have gathered on the western edge of Az Zawiyah together with a dozen armored vehicles, as well as tanks and jeeps mounted with anti-aircraft guns.

On Monday, Gaddafi denied there have been any protests in Tripoli and expressed confidence that he is loved by all his people.
