Starting Sunday, there will be no more railway connection between Bulgaria's capital Sofia and Greece's second-largest city Thessaloniki.

Due to financial troubles, Greece has decided to shut down all its international trainlines to Bulgaria.

On Friday Greece halted trains to Romanian capital Bucharest. Until February 17 trains from Bucharest will be traveling to the Kulata checkpoint on the Greek border; after that date they will be reaching only Sofia.

Starting Sunday, all four train lines between Sofia and Thessaloniki are also cancelled.

The Bulgarian state railway company BDZ has promised to reimburse all passengers with advance tickets.

Sources have it that seriously troubled Greek state railway company OSE is planning to cut all its international lines, in a bid to become financially viable.
